Tribute to Bruce Willis – “I’m Bruce Willis”

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Bruce Willis from wreckandsalvage on Vimeo.

Hello again! After the 4th of July festivities, the drinking and the amusement, it’s now time to pay homage to one of America’s greats. You know exactly who I’m talking about here: Bruce Willis. With Jeep Cherokee putting together a montage of clips from almost all of his films and smashing this great song together, I don’t see another way to celebrate any harder than this.

Good News Everyone! This Guy Has A LOT of Legos!

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

And, by that, I mean nearly three million. Matt De Lanoy, a graphic artist and amateur Lego designer has taken two years out of his life and recreated the a section of New New York, from the Futurama series. Considering how much time, effort and love that has been put into this thing, I can only imagine what will become of it. Looking over the pictures over at Cnet, the complete 5×7 foot design comes complete with the Madison Cube Gardens, MOMCO, entire cast of characters (including some of the talking heads-in-jars) and even a portion of the Mutant City.

All I can say is now that you have done this between seasons, what are you going to do now? Go to Lego Land?

Green Day’s American Idiot… On Broadway

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Okay, I realize that they are putting things like Spiderman with the musical stylings of fucking Bono and whomever his sideman is and that’s supposed to save the spiraling industry that is the performing arts on Broadway. They have lost millions in the past years, going from over 50 shows in a season to nearly 15 – and I understand that’s a scary thought. Kids grow up, they want their flashy 3D with their sexy little blue-kitties and all of their Bay-splosions and what have you.

But you have GOT to be kidding me when you put something like Green Day’s entire album, transfer that and then songs from the down-trodden 21st Century Breakdown (sorry guys, punk died three years ago, even though we enjoyed your company) and make this abomination of musical and theater. There is no creation here… there is no art: you have your actors swinging around from the ceiling like Peter Pan for no damned reason for what? Is that a metaphor for the world running away from you? Or perhaps youth is fleeting and you realized it, with the birth of this nonsense?

What’s worse is that they did receive two Tony’s from this (they are like the Grammy’s in the Theater world), but it was only for the Stage and Lighting. Not for acting, not for choreography, and not for the musical score. If you’re a student at Virginia Tech, there’s a professor here that has received three himself for two shows he has put up on Broadway – one just last year – in Directing, Acting and Stage Development. (In truth I’m gloating… leave me be).

So in the end, what have we learned kids? You don’t put up a show with any musical group on Broadway. It’s dumb and a waste of everyone’s time. Plus, it makes everyone dumber by comparison. I mean think about it. Do you really want your teens to think that American Idiot was the thing that went on Broadway, and not something like West Side Story, Chicago, Grease, or Rent? Hell, the Lion King or Cats (even though that last one scared the shit out of me…).

I Don’t Know Why, But This Tickles Me So…

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

I understand that this has become a trend on Youtube and other places… to cut yourself with the likes of iMovie and make songs and whatever and I’m okay with that. In the end it’s a Random Act of Nerdy and we all need that in our lives. So when I get this in my email directory of a kid doing the theme of Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, I have no idea what struck me… maybe it was my heart growing two sizes that day, but it worked.

It may have also been the fact that he was playing an accordion. Seriously, they still teach that? I mean… where do you even buy that in today’s world? That should be a game, Legend of Kev: Search of The Blow Keys. What’s sad is that this could be a game…

Twilight Fans Create Tent City in L.A.

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

What you’re looking at is over 500 people camped out down at the Nokia Plaza down in Los Angeles, waiting for the premiere of Twilight Saga: Eclipse on Thursday night. The pathetic thing is NONE of these people are going to actually be at the movie; they are just there to get a glimpse of the stars of the movie:  Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner. I’m going to leave it to Chasef to conclude with his comments:

Okay, seriously? I wouldn’t even do this to see the entire cast of Voyager, Enterprise, TNG, or DS9 (for those of you who don’t know me/haven’t read previous articles by me, I’m a geek.) I understand some people like Twilight – that’s fine (-twitch-).  I even understand the throngs of people lined up outside the theaters before a movie like Phantom Menace came out – but they were there to actually see the frakking movie. Is the Twilight “phenomenon” so brain-washing that people will camp out just to get a glimpse of the movies’ actors? (or maybe it just draws a certain type of crowd) Either way, I don’t get it. It’s fine if you like the books and even the movies, but this little love-in seems like something that should have you sitting on a therapist’s couch. And, I swear to god, if one of them says he or she is a vampire, I’m going to pay Sarah Michelle Gellar a lot of money to come shove Mr. Pointy through their chests. I’m done now.

The Pope Says “All Good Catholics Should Watch ‘The Blues Brothers’.”

Monday, June 21st, 2010

When I think The Blues Brothers, I think Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi in their iconic “one black suit, black hat, and black pair of sunglasses,” tearing across all of Illinois on their “Mission from God” to save the orphanage they grew up in. This was the movie that I saw when I was four that bestowed in me my love and appreciation for both music and blue (and quite possibly gin, but that’s never been proven), and so, at any point The Blues Brothers are mentioned, I can’t help but go back to those two faces and start humming.

So when I got ahold of this little diddy from THR saying that the Vatican’s paper, the L’Osservatore Romano, has said that the film is a “Classic Catholic film” and that all good Catholics should see this movie, I was a little taken aback.

So they now have The Passion of the Christ…and The Blues Brothers. Maybe they needed to calm down the bloodletting and bring in some fun-time drinking and swearing. After all, if the Catholics can’t say “Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ!” who can?

This Guy + Biz Markie = Best Blazen Teamup EVER

Monday, June 21st, 2010

I have to say first off that, if you go and watch any of the other videos that this kid has, he is one of the most Asian kids I’ve seen in a long time. That being said, beatboxing is universal, which is why The Biz can do it so well. So watch this video of him busting out to Mario – doming more than half of it with his nose. Kudos.

If Someone Buys Me this, They Get a Puppy

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Right, it’s Lego and Star Wars… and it’s amazing. Coming out in September, a 2500+ piece Imperial Shuttle is heading to your local retailer, giving you the chance to waste your afternoon plugging away at putting it together. It’s coming along with five mini-figs including Luke, Darth Vader, and then Imperial staff. I’ll say it again, if anyone in the general vicinity wants to put down the $260 for me for this, you don’t know what kinds of things I will do for you. Amazingness will have no bounds. “California Nerds” Makes me Feel at Home

Friday, June 18th, 2010

So the guy Skyway Flyer put together a little parody entitled “California Nerds” after Katy Perry’s song “California Gurls.” When done right, I love me a good parody and this one is one of those times. However, I had not actually seen the real music video until just now. If you believe the song to be legitimately bad, then the video: it’s so bad and campy that it’s hilarious.

“When I Cyber, I like to Take it all Slow Yo/ Unless You’re Playing Cross-Genders, Then No-Homo”

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

You can never say that Collegehumor.com doesn’t bring the entertainment. This one is a parody of Jay-z’s “Run This Town” all with World of Warcraft as its focus. I have to tell you, the fact that people sit down and plan all of this out is fantastic to me. I know I have a good deal of time on my hands – it’s why I do my job so well – but seriously, this kinda stuff takes commitment.
