Damn, This Guy Might Finish the Fight Himself

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
Scary good job

Wow.

Gotta say, this is pretty damned impressive.  The amount of energy that must’ve gone into this makes me feel unworthy to call myself a geek.  The bloody thing is even animated.  I’m just starting off the morning since Angry Bear is now Sick Bear.  Take a look at the source link.  Resist the urge to order those plasma pistol & rifle sets after looking at this creepily well-done Elite suit.

Halo Book Trifecta: Halo Reach Comic, Forerunner Trilogy, Reprint of Original Trilogy

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

It’s been a busy week in the world of Tor and Bungie. Teaming up with Marvel and 343 Industries (the people behind the other graphic novels), writer Brian Reed and artist Felix Ruiz are going to tackle Halo: The Fall of Reach in an artistic fashion. Splitting up the story into four issues, the first one – Boot Camp – is set to come out sometime near the release of the game. It’s an interesting choice and it will be fun to see how much it connects to both the game and the novels.

Speaking of… the original series (Fall of Reach, Halo: The Flood, and First Strike) Tor Books and Eric Nylund and William C. Dietz – the guys who wrote them – are re-publishing the three as trade paperbacks. They will come stacked with “editorial notes, additional, updated information, and all-new original content.” Nothing’s been said yet about what specifically, but one can assume that it will tie-in a little more directly with the additional info that they have built in over the years. You can expect all three of these sometime at the end of the year.

This’ll be right after the Forerunner Trilogy, set to release in September. The first of the three will be dropping mid-month, penned by Greg Bear, a man with several science fiction awards and acclaims under his belt, who is taking on one of the least known sections of the Halo mythos. Taking people back thousands of years before the war, the Covenant, humans and even before the rings, you will get to see where all of this technology really started and see the makings of the Flood up close and personal.

Final Fantasy is Heading to the iPhone

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Square Enix is bringing one of the Playstation’s and PSP’s awesome games that we rocked till the disc broke – Final Fantasy Tactics – to the iPhone by September 15th. This latest installment will be known as Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. Given that they are taking the best out of both worlds, hopefully they’ll give us better gameplay and forgo the horrible translations.

Prince of Persia is the Highest-Grossing Video Game….Movie

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Regardless of how you felt about the Prince of Persia (and Mr. Gyllenhall’s acting in the movie) today marks the milestone in the gaming world that a move, based off the game, has grossed over $300 million. That beats the previous record of Lara Croft’s at $274 and this had significantly less jiggling-of-breast. Now, I know that this means little for the movie itself, not even making enough in the box office to pay back the $200 million it took to make the film but hey – at least the game industry approved a litte, right?

AI Buster Busts: Codename Tenka

Monday, June 21st, 2010

This week, I’m going to bring you a little bit of Codename: Tenka.

The game is an action/first-person shooter that would bring up things for later games such as the laser sightings used to give pinpoint accuracy. The game was developed by Psygnosis, a UK-based gaming company who was also responsible for making other games like Lemmings, Colony Wars and the Wipeout Series. (more…)

E3 2010: Funtime Peripherals – Babysitting Mama and MMO World

Friday, June 18th, 2010

So two interesting thing that came out of E3 this week, and I can’t tell if they are good things or bad things yet. One is for all you MMO players out there, gearing up for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV. The other… is well from Majestco – the people that do the “Insert word here” Mama games. They have something for their upcoming Babysitting Mama that’s… yeah.

The first seems kinda pertinent, if ostentatious. Peripheral-makers Hori has made a seemingly keyboard+… thing. With the analog stick and buttons on one side, and an insane-looking tabletop left-hand thing, it should help you finish those raids. Maybe… The downside is that this is just a current “working prototype” with no info on a release date or a price.

However, as far as the other one, I got nothing. With the advent of the new game, you will promptly shove your Wii-mote into the plush baby, to interface fully with the Babysitting Mama game. As awkward and as creepy as it is… I kinda want one? Is that wrong of me?  chasef thinks so.

E3 2010: Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars Preview

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

When given a new Lego game, you know that I’m going to be all over it like bubbles in a jacuzzi, and knowing how Tt Games can bring a game together in their own little style of humor, it always makes it better. The difference between this game as opposed to the other franchises is that it’s hard not to date yourself: this is the third installment in the same series, only done in another timeframe. Plus, this is done in one that isn’t as beloved as say, Episodes IV through VI. Even though the Cartoon Network series is a smash-hit, can the game live up to it by itself? (more…)

Detailed Specs for the Xbox 360 ‘S’

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Now that we have entered into the final day of the magical thing that is E3, we’re getting into the numbers, figures, and preview section of the world of gaming. Last night, I was sent this by some of my friends over at Joystiq, to give a little more detailed explanation of the differences in consoles between the older version of Xbox 360 and the new, slimmer Xbox 360 (officially titled “Xbox 360 S”). There is a siginificant 17% size difference, a new Kensington lock system, letting you leave it and go like you would a laptop or other device. Why they would include this, I don’t know.

Also, an interesting change in programming is that there is no ‘Red-ring” letting you know that there has been a fatal flaw in your machine. Now, that’s not to say that your new 360 can’t and won’t crash on you, but it will flash in a particular pattern a specific array of green LEDs, letting you know what the problem is and how to resolve it. Let’s just hope the overheating isn’t the main issue anymore.

Closer Look at Twisted Metal

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Yesterday during the Sony Keynote, the finale of the show was the sudden and slightly unexpected return of Twisted Metal. What’s in store for the series? Creator and producer Dave Jaffe was on scene to talk about the 10-year stretch between the previous console version and the upcoming game. “It’s going to have everything that you want and more.” With the start of his new company, Eat Sleep Play, Jaffe and co-creator Scott Campbell were able to put together the majority of the original team, to bring back the feel and chaotic style of gameplay that the originals had. E3 2010: Nintendo Keynote – Nintendo 3Ds

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

The final major installment of the keynotes for both today and for hectic angry typing is Nintendo’s 3Ds. Now, this has been leaked for a while and most of the details have been let out, so I won’t stay here too long, but I will let you get into the know about what you need to know… about…s…

Anyway, the Nintendo 3Ds is only implementing one 3D screen, considering that touch screens and parallax screens (the material that allows for 3D images without glasses) don’t mix well. The 3.5-inch screen is back-lit and can also be turned on or off for the 3D capabilities as well. Not only that, the machine also has a built in gyroscope, and built-in wifi.

Now, one of the more unique features on this little bugger is the addition of the joystick, which gives players and developers even more to work with. There is also the inclusion of not one, not two, but three cameras: one in the front and two in the back. the two in the back will allow you to take a 3D picture… pretty crafty, Nintendo.

But what about games? Well, you know that Nintendogs + Cats is going to be there, and there will be several other games, from a list of developers like Warner Bros, Square Enix, Konami, THQ and more. With the addition of the wifi, an interesting little tidbit will be that now, if there are updates for games, download packages, interesting connnections between games… the 3Ds will connect automatically and do what is needed. Even if you are playing a game or walking down the street, it will ninja the connection or other 3Ds, get what it needs, and off it goes.

There is still no word on when this is going to come out, but considering when the other games form Nintendo were coming out, expect to see this around the start of the new year.
