At Least Some People Enjoy The Last Airbender?

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

And by that I mean little to nobody. Still getting scathing reviews and now with M. Night having troubles selling his scripts in Hollywood, this has become one of the biggest jokes in the business. But what do the fans think? Watch the video and see for yourself – it’s all very articulately explained – “just say the name right once!”

It’s 7 on the 7th… Do you Know Where Your Bungie is?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Today marks the birthday of Bungie, the people that brought you the most in the Halo-verse and, well… they are the reason that Microsoft can stand toe-to-toe with Sony and Nintendo. In their infinite glory and humor, Bungie teamed up with the boys over at Rooster Teeth (you know, Red Vs. Blue and their shenanigans?) to bring you a little five-minute diddy of a film to give you both a little show of what to expect in the upcoming multiplayer and to just bring a smile to your cute little faces.

Also, if you don’t remember, today is the day that you can earn that fabled 7on7 achievement on multiplayer for Halo 3. So take the time, join up with some of your old friends and shoot someone in the face.

Blizzard Opens Their Global Writing Contest

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Nerds and LARPers alike can close those text documents that involve the fanfic of Chun-Li doing the whirlybird in that seductive way for Tassadar. Blizzard has opened up their international writing contest up till August 23rd, so you have plenty of time to get your pronouns on.

The contest is simple: you write a 2,500 to 7,500 word short story in the Warcraft, Starcraft, or Diablo canon and one lucky winner will get an all-expenses paid tour of Blizzard HQ and a talk-up with their writing staff. On top of that, they also get a great collectible package, not just writing up a fanfic that you would let your mother actually read. Just be warned: though it doesn’t actually state it in the rules, the use of Kerrigan-on-hyrdalisk action may void the storyarc. (Via Blizzard)

District 11 – The District 9 Parody

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Nothing I like more in the morning than a World Cup Match and some well-deserved parody of action. Making fun of said-World Cup. It made me laugh, almost as much as this Netherlands/Brazil game

100 Greatest Movie Insults

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

I have no idea who in their right mind would sit down and put all of this together, but seriously, I applaud them and thank them profusely. Finding some of the 100 greatest insults from the decades of cinema, he’s spliced and compiled them all together in just under 10 minutes. After the jump, I’ve included the list of movies in order of appearance in case you are curious, but be warned – this is fairly NSFW since almost every one of these are angry and mean. (more…)

Damn, This Guy Might Finish the Fight Himself

Scary good job

Wow.

Gotta say, this is pretty damned impressive.  The amount of energy that must’ve gone into this makes me feel unworthy to call myself a geek.  The bloody thing is even animated.  I’m just starting off the morning since Angry Bear is now Sick Bear.  Take a look at the source link.  Resist the urge to order those plasma pistol & rifle sets after looking at this creepily well-done Elite suit.

Impractical Phone Features Are Awesome

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Pretty freaking awesome

It's-a me!

I’m a gadget whore.  People give me unpleasant looks when I tell them things like the only reason for my jailbreaking my iPhone is so I can have Star Trek themes on it.  So, I’m totally cool with superfluous things weighing down otherwise useful devices.  Anyway, when I saw this, I felt a sliver of childhood innocence again.  The SNES was my first console and the reason I like the smell of the foam electronics are often packed in (yeah, I’m a freak.)  That also means that Super Mario World was my first console game and it still bears a sort of mysticism for me, despite its age and relatively simple graphics.  Pikipirs at XDA Developers has made a fine live wallpaper of, you guessed it, Mario wandering around randomly generated levels for Android phones.  Impractical?  Yes.  Awesome?  Hell yes.  Drop by the source link and take a look.  And maybe remember when things were simpler and people were less rage-inducing.

Dr. Who Knows his Techno

Monday, June 28th, 2010

So I’ll admit that I care nothing for Dr.Who. I don’t know why – so don’t question my abstinence from the UK-produced show and my lack of understanding as to why the ladies ogle over the Doctor. Regardless of my awkwardness, I will admit that I find this entertaining. Now, while seeing the new guy Matt Smith bang out the show’s theme with Electronica duo Orbital makes me applaud him, one has to remember that it IS electronica. For all we know he could just be hitting the same three button sequences back there.

Regardless, the Glastonbury Music Festival was glad to have him close out the show and this is certainly one of the geekiest things I’ve seen today.

An AT-AT Day Afternoon

Monday, June 28th, 2010

It was an awkward last week, but I promise I’ll do better (even though I start this one off sick).

In any case, let’s take off with this interesting video by Patrick Boivin. Taking the idea that an AT-AT could, in fact, be a creature that we would want to love and cherish (rather than rope and obliterate), he sets it up to see what the thing is like in a day-in-the-life. It’s cute, entertaining, and it poops out a Hutt which was enough for me. You can follow the link and see some of his other videos and enjoy yourself on this Monday morning. I’m going to down some meds and see what happens.

Halo Book Trifecta: Halo Reach Comic, Forerunner Trilogy, Reprint of Original Trilogy

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

It’s been a busy week in the world of Tor and Bungie. Teaming up with Marvel and 343 Industries (the people behind the other graphic novels), writer Brian Reed and artist Felix Ruiz are going to tackle Halo: The Fall of Reach in an artistic fashion. Splitting up the story into four issues, the first one – Boot Camp – is set to come out sometime near the release of the game. It’s an interesting choice and it will be fun to see how much it connects to both the game and the novels.

Speaking of… the original series (Fall of Reach, Halo: The Flood, and First Strike) Tor Books and Eric Nylund and William C. Dietz – the guys who wrote them – are re-publishing the three as trade paperbacks. They will come stacked with “editorial notes, additional, updated information, and all-new original content.” Nothing’s been said yet about what specifically, but one can assume that it will tie-in a little more directly with the additional info that they have built in over the years. You can expect all three of these sometime at the end of the year.

This’ll be right after the Forerunner Trilogy, set to release in September. The first of the three will be dropping mid-month, penned by Greg Bear, a man with several science fiction awards and acclaims under his belt, who is taking on one of the least known sections of the Halo mythos. Taking people back thousands of years before the war, the Covenant, humans and even before the rings, you will get to see where all of this technology really started and see the makings of the Flood up close and personal.
